The area known as Carrs Field was bequethed to the residents of Thirsk by Miss Ethell Johnson for recreation. A charitable trust was formed, adopting the name Carrs Field-Ethel Johnson Bequest Trust. Per Miss Johnson's Will, the Town Council retains the right to nominate some of the trustees.
