PLANNING COMMITTEE 2011-12

Thirsk Town Council does NOT determine Planning Applications.
The Town Council is however consulted by Hambleton District Council on all planning application submitted for areas within the town boundaries and also those nearby which would have a major impact upon life in the town. The Town Council Planning Committee meets twice monthly, before the Ammenities Committee meeting and before the Main town council Meeting, it then reports to the Town Council and the committee comments on applications are passed direct to HDC Planning Department.
The Town Council Planning Committee refers plans of a controversial nature to the council.
Because of the time scale for submission of comments to HDC, plans can be brought before either the amenities meeting or the main council meeting without prior notice.
Because the Town Council only receives one copy of each application which are circulated amongst member of the Town Council Planning Committee during the very short consultation period, members of the public who wish to view Planning Applications are advised to visit the Library and view the copies held there during the consultation period.
Comments or observations on Planning Applications should be sent direct to the Planning Officer named on the relevant application and NOT to the Town Council.
Those whose planning applications are refused have the right to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate, full details are available from HDC.
